UNIQUE. Its Dustin's ability to remain one-of-a -kind that makes him stands out from the rest. Modelwatch continues the tradition of featuring new faces- on the cutting edge- with our exclusive with Pulse' Dustin Olander.

"Slam! There he was: full-sleeved tattoos with jet-black hair. Others would have passed him right by, but not how I train my scouts and directors. So she talked with him then called me.

Knowing I like a challenge, she said she found this punk rock kid who builds pools in Orange County, doesn't have a dime to his name and may even need a ride to meet me, but he was amazing! When we met, we just rapped about Bowie and other things. I dug this kid immediately!

Says Stacey Eastman, Dustin's manager at Pulse about how he came into the scene. Though it seems it took sometime before other people from the industry realize just how much impact he can muster as a model.

"I was turned down by every major company there was. They all said "too this" or "too that".

I guess they are all pretty cool. You just have to have somebody that really knows what they are doing. Being managed by Pulse, they have worked their ass off and believed in me when the entire world did not... "

Dustin muses when we asked him about how it felt the first time he was pushed by Pulse for gigs around the world.

MW: So it seems they changed their minds, the agencies that is, what happened afterwards?

Dustin: Every one of those major players have come full circle and tried to either negotiate or snag me for representation. I am still with Pulse and will never leave.

Klein shoots Naomi and Dustin: "Steven Klein called asking for Dustin to shoot Italian Vogue with Naomi Campbell. Dustin had no idea who Naomi was." Stacey Eastman at Pulse on Dustin's first breakthrough.
MW: We know you dig Bowie and such, how was it- modeling with the guy who once you only see perform in concerts but now is talking to you on a first name basis...

Dustin: That was the pinnacle of my modeling career so far.

"Actually after his first shoot with Steven Klein, the top photographer called again and wanted to know if Dustin would be cool shooting with DAVID BOWIE! Dustin talked, broke bread and on and on with Bowie." Comments Eastman.

To put everything is perspective, Dustin's first shoot was with Klein, and it was an editorial with Naomi Campbell.

MW: So how was it so far, in the short time you have been modeling, what do you like best about the job? Any particular aspect of modeling you like most?

Dustin: Travel for sure! Best part about it! The money is great.

The best thus far was shooting two spreads with Bowie.

I like the money campaigns pay. Editorial is tough because there is little pay. But they say it is what builds your longevity. Have to say shows because it's like being on a stage with 10,000 people looking at you and flashes going off! It's crazy. It's very artistic. It's got to be like being Bowie?

BOWIE AND OLANDER: Editorial shoot by Steven Klein.

MW: Tell us what would be your dream modeling assignment. Your ideal location shoot, photographer, the models you wished you would do the shoot and the Designer/Fashion you will be modeling for?

Dustin: Really any. I am more of an artist. I am not really caught up in this whole fashion thing. Honestly I do not know that many so called "people" in the industry. I would have to say anywhere that's paying with anyone as long as they are real. And that my manager approves. I let him worry about all that. He knows what's up.
