The current Gucci ads that put Javier de Miguel on the spotlight has a number of highly-charged sexual undertones, almost all of it are expected from today’s attention-grabbing fashion photography

But the mysterious Spaniard has added more than the usual spice and “electricity” to make one look at it more closely. With the celebrated Pollyanna at the forefront and another star Brazilian Joao Velluntini competing for space, it brought de Miguel into a more competitive spirit and allowed him to be in charge in some way- by being more than just having a hot body to flaunt.

With his youthful good looks, penetrating and extremely intelligent dark brown eyes, he allowed himself to be more than just fashion’s current “boy toy”.

De Miguel, represented by his mother agency Group, was discovered at 16 and has come a long, long way since then.

...Well, I began with Group almost 6 years ago, when I was almost a kid. The thing that I 'm most proud about them is that since the beginning they encourage me to keep on with school and having an education.

They never convinced or influenced me to give it up and leave everything for modeling. No, they planned my modeling career step by step, little by little, so that I began to understand how they work. It allowed me to learn that, with Group, what comes first is the person, then the model...

Jed: Tell the viewers of Modelwatch, how did your career as a model started?

Javier: I was “discovered” in a club, when I was 16 and it was just a couple of days after that I did my first show. It was cool. Pretty exciting and different!

Jed: Was it easy or difficult for you to be convinced to become a model?

Javier: It was quite easy. Actually I didn't really think about modeling full time just until some months ago, but now, I had this idea pretty clear on my mind and would really concentrate on working my best.

Jed: How did your parents react when they learned that you are going to be a male model?

Javier: My family and I knew from the start that modeling has a beginning and an end, my work may end without me knowing it or I may be working for a long time, it depends. So in that sense, they know that sooner or later I will go back home and be with them, to continue with my “normal” life.

Jed: The Gucci ad campaign is perhaps one of the most coveted jobs ever for a male model. Tell us about this experience. What was it like doing this cool job?

Javier: What can I tell you about the feeling...it's just amazing!!! It’s a big step for my career as a model, and the shooting was amazing, with Mario Testino and the ambiance of the whole team was just great!
